Yard waste and debris removal in Salt Lake City

A weekend of yard work ends with a pile that won't fit in the city can. Jeremy hauls branches, brush, leaves, dead shrubs, old fence panels, broken patio furniture, and whatever else came out of the yard, so it's gone before it turns into a permanent feature.

One limit: Jeremy doesn't take rock, gravel, dirt, sod, or anything that needs a shovel. Branches, boards, and bagged leaves are a job. A ton of decorative rock needs a different kind of truck.

What counts as yard debris

Branches and limbs from a pruning weekend. The brush pile behind the shed. Dead shrubs with the root ball still attached. Bagged leaves, hedge trimmings, and the vines that ate the fence. Old fence panels and posts, rotted deck boards, a collapsed pergola, cracked planters, sun-rotted patio chairs, a rusted grill. If it came out of the yard and you can pick it up without a shovel, it goes.

Storm cleanup is the same job with a deadline: a limb across the lawn, a fence section the wind took down, the branches blocking the driveway. Text a photo and it's one load. Overgrown rentals are the other regular: a backyard the last tenant stopped mowing, cut back by your landscaper and left in a heap for someone to haul.

Why the city programs don't quite cover it

Most valley cities help with green waste, but none of it fits a Saturday pile. Salt Lake City wants leaves and small branches in the brown compost cart, and Call 2 Haul won't take loose green waste at all. West Jordan's seasonal can runs spring through late November. Murray residents can book green waste trailers March through November. South Jordan puts out leaf dumpsters in October. Useful programs, each with its own schedule and limits.

Jeremy comes when you text. Loose piles are fine as long as they're in one spot. Nothing has to be bagged or bundled, though it helps.

Where it goes

Yard waste that can't be composted at home goes to the landfill. Old fence panels, deck boards, and broken patio furniture go as regular trash. Anything with metal in it (a steel patio frame, a wrought-iron planter stand) gets pulled for recycling.

Get the price down

Yard debris is bulky, so volume is the whole price. Cut long limbs into manageable lengths so they stack. Pile everything in one place, ideally the driveway or the curb, rather than leaving it where it fell; the closer it sits to the trailer, the less carrying and the lower the number. A backyard pile is fine too. He'll come through the gate and get it. Bag the leaves and clippings. Keep rock and dirt out of the pile entirely; a shovel's worth of gravel mixed into brush turns a simple load into one he can't take.
