Junk removal in Salt Lake City, Utah

Salt Lake City is a short run up I-15 from Jeremy's base in Midvale, and the houses here are their own kind of job. Liberty Wells bungalows and Victorians from the 1890s to the 1920s, with basements that were never meant to be storage. Avenues houses on steep streets and narrow blocks where a truck can't linger. Rose Park's 1940s and '50s brick homes with a shed out back. Sugar House, built around a village center before everybody had a car and a garage.

As of September 2026, the city's Call 2 Haul offers two scheduled pickups a year, one bulk and one green waste, for households on city garbage service. It's useful, and it has limits. The pile should be roughly 8 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet, set out no more than 24 hours ahead, with mattresses separate and refrigerator doors removed or taped shut. It won't take dirt, rock, or concrete, construction debris like drywall or lumber over 5 feet, loose green waste, or anything hazardous, and the city is clear that it's not a pile program. Paint and chemicals never ride on the truck; those go to Salt Lake County's household hazardous waste program.

How Call 2 Haul works

• Call 2 Haul picks up old furniture, mattresses, appliances, refrigerators, tires, electronic waste and bulky green waste at the home.
• Homes on the city's residential curbside garbage service get two scheduled pickups a year: one bulk waste and one green waste.
• It is not a pile program. Pickups are scheduled ahead, through mySLC or by calling the program.
• Set items out no more than 24 hours before the scheduled pickup date.
• The pile should be about 8 feet wide, 4 feet deep and 4 feet high, roughly a pickup truck bed.
• Anything bigger than that goes to the landfill or to a private hauler.
• Keep mattresses apart from the pile; they are picked up separately.
• Keep the pile at least 5 feet from hydrants, trees, poles, mailboxes and walls, and leave 10 feet clear on each side when possible.
• Do not block sidewalks, driveways or other traffic areas.
• No dirt, sod, rocks, concrete or asphalt, in any amount.
• No construction material: drywall, plaster, fencing, trim, lumber over 5 feet, flooring.
• No household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, oil, fluorescent lights, chemicals) and no aerosol cans, gas cans or propane tanks.
• Small loose items must be bagged or boxed. Glass must be in a container.
• Refrigerators and other coolant appliances are taken; doors must be removed or taped or belted shut.
• Carpet and pad must be rolled into 5-foot lengths and tied.
• Up to four car tires plus bicycle tires and tubes; no large truck tires.
• Mattresses should be kept clean and dry; soiled or wet ones are landfilled instead of recycled.
• Green waste pickup: branches and stumps under 24 inches across, cut to 5 feet or shorter, bundled if possible. No other material with the green waste.
• Neighbors within a few blocks can book a group collection for up to 20 homes; each home sets out in front of its own house, and a group does bulk or green waste, not both.
