Junk removal in Holladay, Utah

Holladay is the oldest settlement in the valley outside Salt Lake City itself, and it shows in the houses: older places on the east bench between Millcreek, Murray, and Cottonwood Heights, with the Wasatch at the back door. Full basements and a lifetime of storage are the usual call.

Holladay's garbage and recycling come from the Wasatch Front Waste & Recycling District. For bulky stuff, the district offers a once-a-year container reservation that lands in your driveway, and an annual landfill voucher good for one load in your own car, SUV, or pickup that you unload by hand. The voucher excludes mattresses, tires, and anything with freon, and the district's bulky-waste drop-off event planned for Holladay was canceled for lack of participation. Where it goes: usable furniture and household goods to donation first. Metal, appliances, and cardboard recycled where they can be. The real trash to the landfill. Paint and chemicals stay off the truck.

How the Seasonal Container Reservation Program works

• Qualifying residents get one temporary container a year for bulky household cleanup.
• Reservations are made online only, not by phone, because agreements must be completed first.
• Some cities are split into zones, and residents follow the zone printed on the postcard WFWRD mails before their area opens.
• In 2026 Holladay has three zones; containers are delivered and serviced September 2 to 10 (Zone 1), September 11 to 18 (Zone 2) and September 21 to 25 (Zone 3).
• The container goes in the driveway, off the street and public sidewalks.
• If the driveway cannot be reached, the container is not delivered and the resident loses that year's container.
• The container is 8 ft wide by 10 ft long by 4 ft deep.
• WFWRD staff try to give residents up to 24 hours to use the container.
• Accepted: bulk household waste such as furniture, mattresses, and similar household materials.
• Yard waste is also accepted.
• Fridges and freezers are accepted only after a certified appliance professional tags them to show the freon has been removed.
• Tires of any size are not accepted.
• Hazardous materials are not accepted, including paint, oil, batteries, propane tanks, gasoline, antifreeze, pesticides, and solvents.
• Containers are for residents only; no commercial or construction dumping.
• Do not overload the container or leave waste on the ground around it.
