Junk removal in Millcreek, Utah

Millcreek is the city right below Salt Lake City's south line, about as close to Jeremy's Sugar House runs as a town can get. Most of the houses were standing by the 1980s: starter subdivisions from the 1930s through the 1960s, the old farm homes that are still around, and the bigger places up in Olympus Cove. Decades of a family's stuff in a basement is the normal Millcreek call.

Trash and recycling here come from the Wasatch Front Waste & Recycling District, the same district that serves Holladay and Cottonwood Heights. Its extra help for bulky stuff is a once-a-year container reservation that lands in your driveway and an annual landfill voucher for a load you haul and unload yourself. The voucher won't cover mattresses, tires, or anything with freon, and the container can't take freon appliances or hazardous waste. The district's bulky-waste drop-off event planned for Millcreek was canceled for lack of participation. Jeremy is for everything that doesn't fit those rules: the load you can't lift, the basement you can't drive to the landfill, and the pile that's ready now.

Where it goes: usable furniture and household goods go to donation. Metal, appliances, and cardboard are recycled where they can be. The real trash goes to the landfill. Paint and chemicals stay off the truck.

Typical Millcreek jobs: a garage cleanout in Canyon Rim, a couch and mattress swap in a 1950s starter home near Millcreek Common, a basement cleared in East Millcreek before a sale, and a big estate up in Olympus Cove with a lot of stairs.

How the Seasonal Container Reservation Program works

• Qualifying residents get one temporary container a year for bulky household cleanup.
• Reservations are made online only, not by phone, because agreements must be completed first.
• Some cities are split into zones, and residents follow the zone printed on the postcard WFWRD mails before their area opens.
• In 2026 Millcreek had three zones; containers were delivered and serviced August 4 to 12 (Zone 1), August 13 to 21 (Zone 2) and August 24 to September 1 (Zone 3).
• The container goes in the driveway, off the street and public sidewalks.
• If the driveway cannot be reached, the container is not delivered and the resident loses that year's container.
• The container is 8 ft wide by 10 ft long by 4 ft deep.
• WFWRD staff try to give residents up to 24 hours to use the container.
• Accepted: bulk household waste such as furniture, mattresses, and similar household materials.
• Yard waste is also accepted.
• Fridges and freezers are accepted only after a certified appliance professional tags them to show the freon has been removed.
• Tires of any size are not accepted.
• Hazardous materials are not accepted, including paint, oil, batteries, propane tanks, gasoline, antifreeze, pesticides, and solvents.
• Containers are for residents only; no commercial or construction dumping.
• Do not overload the container or leave waste on the ground around it.
