South Jordan is home to Daybreak, a big planned community of newer homes around Oquirrh Lake, and new homes mean packaging, furniture upgrades, and finished-basement debris.

The city gives residents decent options. A special garbage pickup for a bagged-and-boxed pile up to 5 by 5 by 5 feet, or one or two large items like a couch or an appliance, scheduled through the city portal. A neighborhood dumpster rental, residential only, that doesn't allow refrigerators, air conditioners, e-waste, tires, or rock and dirt. A fall neighborhood cleanup in September and October, leaf dumpsters from mid-October, and a spring cleanup drop-off at City Park.

• Residents can schedule a special pickup for items the normal weekly garbage service will not take.
• Debris must be bagged or boxed, in a pile no larger than 5 feet by 5 feet by 5 feet.
• Instead of a pile, one or two large items such as couches or appliances can be set out.
• Property owners can schedule pickups for their renters.
• Not taken: tires, batteries, drum containers, concrete, household hazardous waste, large tree stumps, tree limbs or branches, dumpster in a bag, piles of dirt, and e-waste such as TVs and computers.
• Pickups are booked by logging in to the city's Connect website.
